The comprehension of the import of Vedas

Svāmi Rāmānuja provides a lecture on how to comprehend the import of Vedas in his first book titled ‘Vedārtha Saṅgrahaḥ’. The book contains Svāmi Rāmānuja’s first explanation of the message of the Vedic scriptures.  He deals with all the key concepts of Vedic philosophy and religion in clear and concise format. He identifies the controversial parts of the scripture and provides ways of understanding them without contradiction and misunderstanding. Hence, it is a work of supreme importance to Vedic students.  It is noted in tradition that the book was written in Tirumalai, the sacred house of Lord Veṅkaṭeśa.

We start with a prayer to Svāmi Rāmānuja.

Prayer to Svāmi Rāmānuja

yo nityam acyuta-padāṃbuja-yugmarukma-vyāmohataḥ taditarāṇi tṛṇāya mene |
asmad-guror-bhagavato~sya dayaika sindhoḥ rāmānujasya caraṇau śaraṇaṃ prapadye ||

Meaning: I attain as my refuge the two lotus feet of Svāmi Rāmānuja, who is my preceptor, who is full of divine attributes, who is the ocean of compassion, and whose desire for the precious lotus feet of Lord Acyuta makes him consider everything else without interest (as a person seeking gold is indifferent to grass).
