The glory of eeyuNNi mAdhavapperumAL

After receiving the Idu muppaththARAyiram (commentary written by vadakkuth thiruvIdhippiLLai, based on nampiLLai’s discourses) from nampiLLai, eeyuNNi mAdhavapperumAL taught the vyAkyAnam to his son eeyuNNi padhmanAbhapperumAL. He also taught him necessary esoteric meanings from various other SrIsukthis to make him engage with the SrIvaishNava dharSanam. SrI padhmanAbahpaperumAL, in turn, taught those meanings mercifully to his disciple, kOlavarAha nAyanAr, also known by his other name, nAlUr piLLai, to make him engage with the dharSanam.  He, in turn, passed on the knowledge to his son, nAlUrAchchAn piLLai and showered his mercy on him. nAlUrAchchAn piLLai taught these meanings to his disciples, thiruvAimozhip piLLai, the direct teacher of maNavALa mAmunigaL and to thirunArAyaNapuraththu Ayi and to thiruvAimozhi AchchAn piLLai. This can be seen from maNavALa mAmunigaL’s 49th SlOkam in his upadhEsa raththina mAlai “AngavarpAl peRRa siRiyAzhwAn appiLLai thAm koduththAr tham maganAr tham kaiyil, pAngudanE nAlUrppiLLaikku avardhAm nalla maganAr avardhAm mElOrkkIndhAr avarE mikku” (this traces the lineage from eeyuNNi mAdhavapperumAL to thiruvAimozhippiLLai in getting the meanings of Idu muppaththARAyiram).

eeyuNNi mAdhavapperumAL’s divine star is hastham. His thaniyan is

(I hold on to the divine feet of kOlavarAhar [nAlUrp piLLai] who is effulgent due to residing in nAlUr. He had complete knowledge of Idu which is the divine explanation of nammAzhwAr’s divine prabandham [thiruvAimozhi], having obtained it from SrI padhmanAbhap perumAL. kOlavarAhar had mercifully bestowed the knowledge of Idu to nAlUrAchchAn piLLai).
