azhagiya varadhar takes refuge under nAyanAr
Just as it has been said “SrI saumya jAmAthru munISvarasya prasAdhasampath prathamAsyathAya” (the first recipient of SrI saumyajAmAthrumunISvarar’s mercy) [after he had embraced the highest ASramam of sanyAsam, azhagiya maNavALap perumAL nAyanAr came to be called as saumya jAmAthrumuni / maNavALa mAmuni], people such as azhagiya varadhar, sEnai mudhaliyAr et al, after hearing the glories of nAyanAr, took refuge under nAyanAr’s divine feet. Among them, azhagiya varadhar adopted sanyAsASramam and was given the name rAmAnuja jiyar [in later days, he was called as onnAna SrI vAnamAmalai jIyar as well as ponnadikkAl jIyar]. He became, as said in periya thiruvandhAdhi pAsuram 31 “nizhalum adithArum AnOm” (we became his shadow and footwear), the constant pAdharekhA (the lines on the feet) worshipping nAyanAr every day.
nAyanAr mercifully reaches SrIrangam
While he was thus with his trusted disciples, nAyanAr thought “We should continuously worship namperumAL who is our lifeline, praise him, live in SrIrangam until the body falls down; isn’t this alone proper for us?” Immediately he reached AzhwAr’s sannidhi, prostrated in front of him and told him “Since you have praised him [in your thiruvAimozhi 10.7.5] naNNAvasurar naliveydha nalla amarar poliveydha eNNAdhanagaLeNNum nanmunivar inbam thalai siRappa paNNAr…. (for the unfavourable demonic people to get annihilated, for the favourable celestial people to become happy and for the sages who keep praying for more auspicious qualities for sarvESvaran, singing with tune…), namperumAL is now seeing all the great things that he had in the past [before invasion]. adiyEn would like to worship perumAL. adiyEn seeks dhEvarIr’s (your highness’) approval”; nammAzhwAr granted him his request.
Subsequently, just as it has been said in the SlOkam

(After a few days, nAyanAr, who had a divine form, reached SrIrangam which is a supremely divine abode and auspicious place for earth), nAyanAr, along with his disciples, left for SrIrangam. On the way, in order to see the divine feet of emperumAn at SrIvillipuththUr as said in “villipuththUr uRaivAn than ponnadi kANbadhOr AsaiyinAlE” (with the desire to worship the divine golden feet of the one who is residing in SrIvillipuththUr), he reached SrIvillipuththUr, worshipped vadaperungOyiludaiyAn (one who is having the great temple in which he is reclining on a banyan leaf) and periyAzhwAr. Later, he worshipped annavayalpudhuvai ANdAL (ANdAL who is living in SrIvillipuththUr which is surrounded by fields having swans in them) praising her as said in her thaniyan neeLAthunga sthanagiri … gOdhAthasyai nama idhamidham bhUya: (let this salutation remain for ever for ANdAL who sang on kaNNan (krishNa) who was reclining on the bosom of nappinnaip pirAtti (neeLA dhEvi) …). After worshipping ANdAL, as said in the SlOkam

(he initially worshipped that gOdhA (ANdAL), who is the divine consort of azhagiya maNavALan, and whose garland, which had decorated her divine lock, azhagiya maNavALan happily dons himself), he left that place, desiring to worship thirumAlirunjOlai which is described in aruLichcheyals as “neRipadavadhuvE ninaivadhu nalamE” (it is best to think of going to thirumAlirunjOlai), he went towards thirumAlirunjOlai. He reached that place, entered the temple of azhagar (name of sarvESvaran’s uthsava idol), worshipped the divine feet of emperumAn, took the divine prasAdhams including sacred water offered there and reminisced kUraththAzhwAn’s SlOkam in sundhara bAhusthavam

(Oh the beautiful lord of thirumAlrinjOlai, who is like an ocean of mercy! You should grant my sincere appeal to you, with your divine mind. You should shower mercy so that adiyEn is able to live under the divine feet of emperumAnAr, just like earlier times, at SrIrangam temple). He then proceeded with fervour to SrIrangam, in order to carry out service as a servitor to thiruvarangaththu emmAn (my Lord at SrIrangam).
