nAyanAr along with the others, then went to the sannidhi of SatakOpar (nammAzhwAr) who is considered as the protective sandals for the lotus-like feet of thennarangan (SrIranganAthan), the consort of SrI mahAlakshmi. He worshipped him, went in a circumambulatory manner, reached the sannidhi of SrIranga nAchchiyAr, who is praised in irAmAnusa nURRandhAdhi as angayalpAy vayal thennarangam aNiyAga mannum pangayamAmalrp pAvai (SrIranganAchchiyAr who sits on a huge lotus flower, shines as the divine ornament for the southern abode of SrIrangam which is surrounded by fields having beautiful fish), worshipped her divine feet saying “SrIrangarAja mahishIm SriyamASrayAma:” (we have attained the divine feet of the wealth of SrIrangam, who is the divine consort of SrIrangarAjan) and received her divine grace. He then went inside the temple, going through the divine maNtapas, prostrated in front of the balipeetam (raised structure where divine food is offered at specific timings), then went inside the main sannidhi of SrIranganAthan, circumambulated it, worshipping the praNavAKAra vimAnam (the main tower over the sanctum sanctorum of SrIranganAthan, which is in the form of praNavam and which was worshipped by brahmA [in sathyalOkam] as well as the sannidhi of sEnai mudhaliyAr (vishvaksEnar), entered the main divine maNtapam (hall or pavilion like structure) of azhagiya maNavALan (SrI ranganAthan), prostrated there saying “AzhivaNNa! nin adiyiNai adaindhEn aNipozhil thiruvarangaththammAnE! ” (Oh one who has the complexion of ocean! Oh one who is residing in thiruvarangam which is surrounded by kAvEri! I have attained your divine feet). He worshipped periya thiruvadi (garuda), took permission from the dhvArapAlakas (vigraham of guards protecting the entrance), entered the main sannidhi, praising emperumAn heartily, near the thirumaNaththUN (the two huge pillars in front of periya perumAL, just outside the sanctum sanctorum). He carried out mangaLASAsanam to perumAL as mentioned in aruLichcheyal pAsurams such as perumAL thirumozhi “arangamAkOyil koNda karumbinaik kaNdu kaNNiNai kaLiththu” (worshipping the sugarcane who has taken residence in the huge temple of SrIrangam, with both eyes feeling joyous), enjoying perumAL from his divine feet to the divine crown as recited by thiruppANAzhwAr in amalanAdhipirAn, feeling sad for the days lost in not worshipping him as mentioned in mudhal thiruvandhAdhi “pazhudhE pala pagalum pOyina” (I have wasted many days by not worshipping), praising him as in thiruppallANdu “paduththa painnAgaNaip paLLikoNdAnukku paLLANdu kURudhumE” (let us praise him, who is reclining on the mattress of AdhiSEshan, to live for ever). Subsequently he recited [thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr’s] thirumAlai pAsuram starting from “pAyu nIrarangandhannuL pAmbaNaip paLLi koNda mAyanAr thirunanmArvum” (the divine, beautiful chest of emperumAn who is an amazing entity, who has taken residence atop the mattress of AdhiSEshan in thiruvarangam which is surrounded by flowing waters of kAvEri) and ending with “AyasIr mudiyum thEsum adiyarOrkku aglalAmE” (is it possible for his followers to leave emperumAn who has such divine crown and splendour?) He experienced the vyUha sauhArdhAdhi (auspicious qualities exhibiting his superior nature, benevolent heart etc) qualities of emperumAn and then worshipped namperumAL who was mercifully seated on the simhAsanam (royal throne) of serapANdian (name of his throne) . He worshipped namperumAL the way it has been mentioned in SrIrangarAjasthavam pUrvaSathakam 74

(Let us worship for another hundred years at thiruvarangam, SrI ranganAtha, who has his divine lotus like feet firmly planted in lotus seat, who has apt divine silken robe for his divine waist, who has a divine form as if he were dancing, who has a natural smile, who has divine lotus like face which is hugging his divine crown, who has divine weapons which are resting and who is dear to SrI mahAlakshmi). He then recited mumukshuppadi dhvya prakaraNam sUthram 21 “thirukkaiyilE pidiththa dhivyAyudhangaLum vaiththanjalenRa kaiyum kaviththa mudiyum mukamum muRuvalum AsanapadhmaththilE azhundhiya thiruvadigaLumAy niRkiRa nilaiyE namakkuth thanjam” (the manner in which namperumAL is holding the divine weapons in his divine hands, holding his hand such that he is telling us not to fear anything, the crown adorning his divine face, the divine face and smile and the way he is firmly planting his divine feet on the divine lotus like seat indicate that he alone is our refuge). He looked at the divine face of namperumAL just like an impoverished man would look at a great treasure, namperumAL being the great treasure of preceptors, looked at the reddish divine countenance and kasthUri thirunAmam (the divine mark on the forehead) without taking his eyes off even for a moment. At the same time, namperumAL showered his mercy on him, looking at him just as parents look at their son who has been living in another place for a long time and returns home, thinking “We will search out and attain the ones who we desire”, considering him as an entity worthy of his attention just as he had considered rAmAnujar to be.
