avathArikai (Introduction)
piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully answering the question “If such restrictions are not there for prapaththi, which process has such restrictions?”
sUthram 25
karmaththukku puNya kshEthram, vasanthAdhi kAlam, SAsthrOkthangaLAna thaththath prakArangaL, thraivarNikar enRu ivai ellAm vyavasthithangaLAyirukkum.
Simple Explanation
For [vaidhika] karma (ordained activities), holy abodes, time period such as spring season etc, methods as explained in SAsthram, performers being thraivarNikas (brAhmaNa, kshathriya, vaiSya) all are mandated.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
karmam – jyOthishtOma yAgam etc.
puNya kshEthrams – Abodes highlighted as holy in SAsthrams.
vasanthAdhi kAlam – Adhi (etc) indicates periods such as grIshma (summer) season, Sarath (autumn) season, Sukla paksha (bright fortnight) and krishNa paksha (dark fortnight), pUrvAhna (day time), aparAhna (evening time). Restriction based on kAlam is shown in “vasanthE vasanthE jyOthishA yajEtha” (jyOthishtOmam should be performed in every spring season).
SAsthrOkthangaLAna thaththath prakArangaL – Saucha (ablutions), Achamana (sipping of water with manthras), snAna (bathing), vratha (vow), japa (chanting) etc steps which are ordained as per each karmam.
thraivarNikar – Since only those who undergo upanayana samskAram and study vEdham to become an expert are qualified to engage in vaidhika karmam. These are upalakshaNam (sample) for other qualifications such as being a gruhamEdhi (householder), having krishNa kESa (dark hair), being vEdha vEdhAnga yuktha (being learned in vEdham and ancillary subjects of vEdham) etc.
vyavasthithangaLAyirukkum – These are ordained/established.
