avathArikai (Introduction)

Starting from sUthram 140 “pUrNa vishayam” up to here, are additional information, but previously prapaththi’s greatness was explained. Hence, to explain another greatness of prapaththi, piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully highlighting the sameness of sidhdhOpAyam (bhagavAn as means) and the palam (goal).

sUthram 140

pullaik kAtti azhaiththup pullai iduvAraippOlE, pala sAdhanangaLukku bhEdham illai.

Simple Explanation

Just as people will attract a cow showing the grass and subsequently feed the cow with the same grass, there is no difference between the goal and the means.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

pullaik kAtti …

That is – those who desire to bring a cow and protect it by feeding that which sustains it, will use the grass which is enjoyable for the cow as the one which attracts it, bring it closer and will feed the same – hence there is no difference between the goal and the means; similarly bhagavAn ,who has distinguished qualities and form, remains as the means to accept the chEthana first and will also remain as the goal forever for the chEthana; thus the goal and the means remain the same.
