avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “How does the SEshathvam (servitude) which is a decoration for AthmA and is desired by SEshi (lord), become a hurdle in enjoyment?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.

sUthram 161

azhagukkitta sattai aNaikkaikku virOdhiyAmAppOlE.

Simple Explanation

This is similar to a blouse [upper garment] which was worn to add beauty, becoming a hurdle during embrace.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

azhagukku …

That is, though the blouse worn by a woman to add to her beauty, will remain enjoyable for her husband and will be a decoration for her, during intimate times with her husband, it will become a hurdle for their embrace; similarly, this SEshathvam will also be a hurdle for enjoyment [between bhagavAn and AthmA].
