snAnam rOsha janakam” enRa vArththaiyai smarippathu.

Simple Explanation

Remember the words in “snAnam rOsha janakam” (sIthAp pirAtti’s bathing caused anger).

That is – remember the words in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 118.17 “dhIpO nEthrAthurasyEva prathikUlAsi mEdhruvam” (just as brightness is for a person with eye-disease, your presence is unfavourable for me). As said in “sapangAm analankAram” (having dirt and being without any decoration) – it is obvious that for SrI rAma who wanted to see sIthAp pirAtti’s dirty form due to not bathing for ten months, her act of bathing before coming to see him, will cause anger for him.

But it was SrI rAma who mercifully ordered SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn to bring sIthAp pirAtti after having her bathe as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 118.6 and 118.7 “dhIrgam ushNam viniSvasya mEdhinIm avalOkayan | uvAcha mEga sankAsam vibhIshaNam upasthitham || dhivyAngarAgAm vaidhEhIm dhivyAbharaNa bhUshithAm | iha sIthAm charasnAthAm upasthAya mAchiram ||” (SrI rAma told SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn who was having the complexion of cloud and who was nearby spoke clearly with hot breath told “Do not delay bringing the daughter of the king of vidhEha here, after having her bathe fully upto head, being anointed with divinely fragrant sandal paste, being decorated with divine ornaments. Do it immediately”). In such case, why did he become angry? This is because, he thought “We will send some auspicious words, and will she not know herself?” and sent the message; it was not said with full heart by him; otherwise, he would not have become angry.

She too said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 118.17 “asnAthA dhrashtumichchAmi barthAram rAkshasAdhipa” (Oh king of demons (SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn)! I desire to see rAghava, my husband, without taking bath) and was firm in the thought; but did she not take bath after being compelled to do so by SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn? Though SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn compelled her based on SrI rAma’s merciful words, he did not know SrI rAma’s heart. Whatever may have been the compulsion, she should have gone there with her form which has imprisoned in rAvaNa’s place, and should have refused to take bath; instead of doing that, she immediately took bath and came; that became the reason for SrI rAma’s anger, where he wanted to see her in that form. Hence, there is nothing wrong in saying “snAnam rOsha janakam“.

When SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn requested sIthAp pirAtti to mercifully bathe, since she understood perumAL’s divine heart, she thought “since this is not desirable for him, this will end in his anger” and mercifully told as in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 118.17 “asnAthA dhrashtumichchAmi barthAram rAkshasAdhipa” (Oh king of demons (SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn)! I desire to see rAghava, my husband, without taking bath). Previous explanation implying the words that highlights the act leading to perumAL’s anger, will be applicable here too.
