avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “In this manner (as explained in previous sUthrams), if superior birth etc could lead to loss, could inferior births etc lead to the result?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully responds.
sUthram 208
janma vruththangaLinudaiya uthkarshamum apakarshamum, pERRukkum izhavukkum aprayOjakam.
Simple Explanation
The superiority and inferiority in birth, conduct etc are not the cause for the gain or the loss of the result.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
janma vruththangaLinudaiya …
That is – superiority of birth, conduct etc are not the cause for gain and loss of the result; similarly, inferiority of birth, conduct etc are not the cause for gain and loss of the result.
Alternative explanation.
A question is raised here – You said in sUthram 205 “idhil janma vruththAdhi niyamam illai” (There is no restriction based on one’s birth, conduct etc.) and in sUthram 207 “izhavukku uRuppAgil thyAjyamAmiRE” (if that brAhmaNyam itself leads to loss, then it is to be abandoned). Can you speak in this manner? Since through learning of vEdham etc one attains bhagavAn, should we not consider that this superior birth, conduct etc leads to the end result and that the inferiority of the same implies disqualification for learning of vEdham, and leads to loss? – piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully responds.
janma vruththangaLinudaiya …
That is – the superiority of birth, conduct etc is not the cause for the result and the inferiority of the same is not the cause for the loss. pERu – attaining bhagavAn; izhavu – not attaining bhagavAn.
prayOjakam
That which gets the result. Since we see that some of those who have superior birth and conduct are getting the result and others in the same group are losing the result, and similarly, some of those who have inferior birth and conduct are getting the result and others in the same group are losing the result, the superiority or inferiority not being the cause is well observable.
