piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully answering the questions “What is the defect for the [so-called superior] birth? What is the remedy for that?”

janmaththukkuk koththaiyum adhukkup parihAramum, “pazhudhilA ozhugal” engiRa pAttilE aruLichcheydhAr.

Simple Explanation

thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr, in his thirumAlai 42pazhudhilA ozhugal“, mercifully explained the defect for birth and the remedy for the same.

That is – SrI thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr who is divinely blessed with pure knowledge and devotion by bhagavAn, who is a leader amongst the knowers of truth, who is the pinnacle of servitude towards devotees, in thirumAlai 42pazhudhilA ozhugal ARRup palasadhuppEdhimArgaL izhi kulaththavargaLElum emmadiyArgaLAgil thozhuminIr kodumin koLmin enRu ninnOdum okka vazhipada aruLinAy pOl madhiL thiruvarangaththAnE” (Oh one who is residing inside the temple with high walls! Did you not mercifully say “Oh those who are coming in the lengthy lineage starting with brahmA, up to themselves, without any blemish and are learned in the four vEdhas! Even if my devotees are born in a lowly birth, you worship them, teach them and learn from them”, to worship your devotees as your equal!) – You gave this great secret saying “Oh those who are coming in the lengthy lineage starting with brahmA, up to themselves, without any blemish and are learned in the four vEdhas! Even if my devotees are born in a lowly birth, knowing their distinguished relationship with me, you fall at their feet and worship them, if they seek knowledge from you, you teach them eagerly, and if they are willing to share knowledge about me, learn from them; since there is none more worshippable than me, you at least worship them as equal to me”; as you have revealed this great secret previously as in “bhakthir ashta vidhAhyEshA yasmin mlEchchEpi varththathE | thasmai dhEyam thathO grAhyam sacha pUjyO yadhAhyaham ||” (Even if this eight folded bhakthi is found in any mlEchcha (one who is outside the vEdhic belief system), all instructions can be given to that person as well; good advice can be accepted from him as well; such person is as much worshippable as I am), is there any doubt in this principle? Not only you gave this instruction, but did you not mercifully remain in kOyil (SrIrangam) and make thiruppANAzhwAr climb the head (shoulders) of lOkasAranga mahAmunigaL and establish this principle by practically demonstrating it? In this pAsuram, the pride of AbhijAthyam (being born in high family heritage) which is a defect in birth, will be remedied by serving those distinguished devotees who are devoid of such pride, is very clearly explained by thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr.
