avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “What is the reason for saying that periyAzhwAr always engages in mangaLASAsanam while other AzhwArs do it occasionally?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.

sUthram 252

avargaLudaiya AzhangAlthAnE ivarkku mEdAy irukkum.

Simple Explanation

That (beauty) which drowns other AzhwArs will look like shallow water for him where he can stay and perform mangaLASAsanam.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

avargaLudaiya …

That is – emperumAn’s beauty which drowns the AzhwArs who are engaged in enjoying him, by captivating their vision, will be the shallow water spot where periyAzhwAr, who is engaged in performing mangaLASAsanam to fear thinking “What will happen to him?”, can stand firm and keep on performing mangaLASAsanam.
