avathArikai (Introduction)

Thus, piLLai lOkAchAryar previously revealed periyAzhwAr’s full focus on mangaLASAsanam; subsequently, he mercifully explains the mandatory performance of mangaLASAsanam which was previously said in dhinacharyA (sUthram 243) as “ugandharuLina nilangaLil AdharAthiSayamum mangaLASAsanamum“, indicating that periyAzhwAr’s routine should be the routine of all of us.

sUthram 257

ugandharuLina nilangaLai anusandhiththAl UNum uRakkamum inRikkE, ivarudaiya yAthraiyE namakkellArkkum yAthraiyAga vENum.

Simple Explanation

When one thinks about the divine abodes of bhagavAn where he mercifully and joyfully resides, one should care for them without food and sleep, and have his/her routine to be the same as periyAzhwAr’s routine.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

ugandharuLina …

That is – when one thinks about the dhivydhESams where the most tender sarvESvaran places himself for the sake of his devotees to easily approach him, and resides with great attachment as said in thirunedundhANdagam 6 “thAnugandha Ur” (the abode which is dear to him), due to the stomach burn of fearing for the dangers which may occur for his merciful presence in this samsAram which is filled with abundant dangers, just as periyAzhwAr was having overwhelming love and due to that love not having engagement in eating and sleeping, all of us who are SEshabhUthas (servitors) should be constantly performing mangaLASAsanam.
