avathArikai (Introduction)
piLLai lOkAchAryar reminds us of an incident which establishes emperumAn’s nirhEthuka vishayIkAram.

Simple Explanation
During the days of bhAshyakArar (emperumAnAr), while the SrIvaishNava elders had gathered and were waiting for perumAL’s puRAppAdu (procession) in the eastern side of periya thirumaNdapam (the main maNdapam in front of periya perumAL sannidhi), this principle was spoken about; recall the discussion which occurred subsequently.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
bhAshyakArar kAlaththilE …
That is – during the golden days of bhAshyakArar where the essence of all vEdhAntham was conducted without any doubt/error, very knowledgeable SrIvaishNava elders had gathered on the eastern side of periya thirumaNdapam waiting for perumAL’s puRappAdu; at that time, a SrIvaishNava said “We are not sure at whose gates we may have waited since time immemorial, but today, we are here waiting for the apt lord, that is perumAL’s puRappAdu; what good deed we must have done for this?” In that context the topic of “How did the one who remained as nithya samsAri (eternally bound person) acquire taste in bhagavath vishayam?” was analysed; principles such as yAdhruchchika sukrutham (incidental good deed), agyAtha sukrutham (unknowingly done good deed) etc were raised; at that time, a person named kidAmbip perumAL who was there said “Just as bhagavAn is there for us, is there a person named sukrutha dhEvar (good deeds personified), to whom we can surrender?” piLLai thirunaRaiyUr araiyar mercifully responded “The one that they are identifying as sukrutha dhEvar, is the same principle (bhagavAn) which you are thinking”; thus, piLLai lOkAchAryar is saying that we should think about the subsequent conversation. This incident is briefly explained in the commentary of perumAL thirumozhi 5.1 “tharuthuyaram thadAyEl” pAsuram by our AchAryas. With this – it is said that, even if one has agyAtha sukrutham, that is not the cause for the result, bhagavAn who considers it as the reason and grants the result, is the cause.
