avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “What did he do for both ISvaran and chEthanan?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.

sUthram 429

ISvaranukku SEshavasthuvai upakariththAn; chEthananukku SEshiyai upakariththAn.

Simple Explanation

He gave ISvaran his servitor; he gave the chEthana his lord.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

ISvaranukku …

That is, for ISvaran who is at a loss in not getting a single AthmA even after trying to attract them through creation, incarnations etc, AchAryan reforms the AthmA who is a servitor, by teaching what is unknown to him, and makes the AthmA to remain at ISvaran’s disposal; for chEthana who remained like achith since time immemorial due to lack of knowledge about bhagavAn, AchAryan informs about his relationship with bhagavAn and shows such lord. With this, AchAryan’s greatness of being the benefactor for both chEthanan and ISvaran is explained.
