<< Relieving the curse of yamaLArjuna
Since there were continuous disturbances in gOkulam, nandhagOpar and other elders of the cowherd clan decided to move from gOkulam to vrindhAvanam. They travelled in many bullock carts and reached vrindhAvanam. vrindhAvanam is a beautiful lush green place. It is an apt place for cattle gazing. Hence they reached vrindhAvanam considering it to be the best place for them.
Still, even after reaching there, there were continuous disturbances from many demons. Once, two demons who were sent by kamsan planned to kill krishNa, together, One demon entered into a calf and another demon entered into a wood apple fruit. krishNa observed their presence in this manner, but remained indifferent. When the calf approached krishNa, he lifted the calf and threw it on the fruit, on the wood apple tree and killed both of them at once. This incident is known as “vathsAsura – kapiththAsura vadham”. Many AzhwArs have shown this leelA in their pAsurams. nammAzhwAr says in periya thiruvandhAdhi “AnInRa kanRuyarath thAm eRindhu kAyudhirththAr” (krishNa knocked down the wood apple fruit with calf that was given birth to, by a cow); ANdAL says in thiruppAvai “kanRu kuNilAy eRindhAn” (threw the calf as the stick); thirumangai AzhwAr says in periya thirumozhi “viLanganiyai iLanganRu koNdu udhira eRindhu” (Knocking down the wood apple fruit with a young calf) bhUthaththAzhwAr says in iraNdAm thiruvandhAdhi “thAzhndha viLanganikkuk kanRerindhu” (throwing the calf towards the wood apple fruit which is lowered).
Another demon came in the form of a crane. krishNa easily killed it by tearing its beak. This incident is known as bakAsura vadham and is explained by many AzhwArs. ANdAL shows this in thiruppAvai “puLLin vAyk kINdAnai” (one who tore the bird’s mouth); thirumangai AzhwAr says in periya thirumozhi “puL vAy piLandhu” (tearing the bird’s mouth); nammAzhwAr says in thiruvAimozhi “puLLin vAy piLandhAy!” (Oh one who tore the bird’s mouth).
In this manner, when krishNa was growing up, his mischievous acts and amazing acts were happening in abundance. Playing with cows and calves, stealing butter, curd etc which were gathered by the cowherd girls were his common pastimes.
Essence in these incidents,
- bhagavAn will easily identify those who are pretending with him with evil intentions and kill them.
- Killing enemies is a very easy task for bhagavAn.
