<< Benediction received by dhadhipANdan
When krishNa was about five years old, along with the other cowherd boys, he would go to the forest and manage the cattle there. Since there were flush fields in vrindhAvan, they would joyfully go to the forest, run around and play there and would return. Mother yaSOdhA and the other cowherd women would send prasAdhams such as curd rice, pickles etc with them. Around noon time, all the children will sit around krishNa and will joyfully eat the prasAdham.
Once when they went to the forest in this manner, an evil minded demon named aghAsura had arrived in the forest, being sent by kamsan. He was the brother of pUthanA and bakAsura. As they were killed by krishNa, aghAsura was very angry on him. He assumed the form of a huge snake and remained on the path taken by the cowherd boys, with his mouth wide open. It appeared like the entrance of a shining cave. Hence the cowherd boys eagerly entered inside that mouth. They joyfully played in there. krishNa who knew his plan, remained outside. But he wanted krishNa to enter so that he can close his mouth and kill everyone.
Finally, krishNa went inside. Immediately aghAsura closed his mouth. Everyone started suffocating and fainted. Only krishNa remained alert. He thought about a way to kill aghAsura and expanded his divine form greatly. Unable to bear that power, aghAsura started struggling. Then, krishNa, with his huge hand landed a powerful punch on the inside of the snake’s head. His head tore into two parts and he fell down and died. krishNa with his merciful glance, brought the children back to consciousness.
Essence in this incident:
- When one is having the support of bhagavAn, any danger can be averted.
- bhagavAn is very alert in saving his devotees from dangers.
