All the dhEvathAs joyfully glorified krishNa killing aghAsura, Hearing about this, brahmA at once descended here, saw everything and became amazed. brahmA who is usually devoted towards bhagavAn had thamO guNam (quality of ignorance) rising at that time and became jealous of krishNa. He thought “Why is there so much celebration for a small boy?” He thought of troubling krishNa somehow and breaking his joy.
krishNa and the cowherd boys sat together to eat their food since it became noon time. They noticed that the calves which came along with them were missing. brahmA already had hidden those calves. krishNa told them to eat their food and told that he will go and find the calves and bring them there. At that time, brahmA took those boys as well and went away. krishNa who knew all of these, at once assumed the forms of all those cowherd boys and calves. He remained in the forest for a little while and returned to the town.
Since krishNa himself became calves and cowherd boys, the cows which saw those calves and the parents who saw their children, without realising, showed great love towards them. In this manner, some time went by. balarAma who observed this, thought about it and understood what happened with his knowledge and became joyful.
In the meantime, brahmA became shocked seeing the events here, from his sathyalOkam. While he was having the calves and the boys, he observed that the calves and boys were giving greater joy to krishNa. They all appeared in vishNu form to brahmA. Again, sathva guNam (noble quality) rose in brahmA and he came running from there, fell at bhagavAn’s lotus feet fully, prayed for forgiveness and glorified bhagavAn. As brahmA gave up his pride, he forgave brahmA. As brahmA returned the calves and cowherd boys, krishNa took back his forms of them. In this manner, out of great compassion, he eliminated brahmA’s pride.
Essence in this incident:
- Irrespective of one’s high position, if one becomes prideful one may fall down from that position. Hence it is best to develop humility.
- Since bhagavAn has pithA – puthra (father – son) relationship with all AthmAs, even if an AthmA commits mistake, instead of giving importance to it, he makes the AthmA realise his mistake, reforms the AthmA and accepts the same.
