After killing of the elephant kuvalayApeedam and the wrestlers who were considered by kamsa as his protection, kamsa who was seated on a throne on a high platform, started shivering. krishNa was determined to finish him. He was waiting for this since the day he incarnated.
kamsa ordered his soliders saying “Drive these two children out of our kingdom; kill vasudhEva and ugrasEna”. krishNa quickly went towards kamsa. kamsa pulled out his sword and tried to attack krishNa. But krishNa pulled him down by grabbing his hair, sat on him and killed him by smacking him fiercely. As kamsa’s brothers came to attack him, both krishNa and balarAma finished them too. Since kamsa was always thinking about krishNa and by the grace of krishNa, he acquired a beautiful form matching bhagavAn’s form.
AzhwArs have enjoyed krishNa’s killing of kamsa in many pAsurams. periyAzhwAr in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi says “kaRuththittu edhir ninRa kanjanaik konRAn” (krishNa killed kamsa who opposed him mischievously). ANdAL says in her nAchchiyAr thirumozhi “kanjanai vanjanaiyinAl seRRavan” (One who killed kamsa by deceit). thirumazhisai AzhwAr in his thiruchchandha viruththam says “kanjanaik kadindhu” (punished kamsa). nammAzhwAr in his thiruvAimozhi says “sAdhu sanaththai naliyum kanjanaich chAdhippadhaRku AdhiyanjOdhi uruvai angu vaiththingup piRandhu” (emperumAn was born with his primordial spiritual form which is having divine splendour as in paramapadham, to control kamsa who was hurting good-natured people such as dhEvaki, vasudhEva et al).
Essence in this incident:
- bhagavAn has no enemies. But he considers the enemies of his devotees and destroys them.,
- bhagavAn severely tortures those who torment his devotees, makes them helpless and then kills them.
