Simple Explanation
The seeds for karma (deeds) and krupai (mercy) are [AthmA’s] ignorance and [bhagavAn’s] kind heart, respectively.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
That is – the seed for karma is AthmA’s ignorance as said in thiruvirththam 1 “poy ninRa gyAnam” (knowledge which is not truthful); the seed for krupai is bhagavAn’s kind heart as said in iraNdAm thiruvandhAdhi 59 “aruL purindha sindhai” (the divine mind focussed on mercy). In the SlOkam “ISvarasyacha sauhArdham yadhruchchA sukrutham harE: | vishNO: katAksham adhvEsham Abhimukyam cha sAthvikai: sambhAshaNam shadEthAni AchArya prApthi hEthava: ||” (ISvaran’s good heart, unknowingly done good deeds [by chEthana], vishNu who is the destroyer of sins – his merciful glance, being without hatred[towards that vishNu], being favourable [towards him] and discussion with noble people, are the six causes which facilitate reaching an AchAryan), for AthmA’s liberation, bhagavAn’s kind heart is explained as the root cause for his efforts. Due to this kind heart, compassion blossoms in his divine heart towards AthmA.
