avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “Should we not abandon that [self-interest] which is contrary to the true nature even if it is caused by the defect [greatness] of bhagavAn instead of the defect in the self?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.
sUthram 272
vishaya dhOshaththAlE varumavai ellAm dhusthyajamAyiRE iruppadhu.
Simple Explanation
Whatever occurs due to the defect [greatness] of bhagavAn, is difficult to be given up.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
vishaya dhOshaththAlE…
That is – bhagavAn who is the target of the experience of AthmA, has the defect of distinguished physical beauty which will even melt diamond and make a man to wear feminine clothes; even when one tries to give up the self-interest which occurs in the self due to such beauty, the attachment which is the cause for that self-interest, the resulting actions due to such attachment etc, cannot be easily given up.
When it is recited as vishaya dhOshaththAlE varumadhu (in singular), it indicates self-interest only.
