avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “Do those who instruct any manthram of bhagavAn, not qualify to be an AchArya?” piLLai lOkAchAryar explains.

sUthram 316

samsAra vardhakangaLumAy kshudhrangaLumAna bhagavanmanthrangaLai upadhESiththavargaLukku AchAryathva pUrthi illai.

Simple Explanation

Those who instructed bhagavAn’s manthrams which nurture samsAra (worldly affairs) and are lowly, do not have completeness of being an AchArya.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

samsAra vardhakangaLumAy …

That is – for those who instructed these other manthrams of bhagavAn, which not only don’t eliminate samsAram, but will also nurture that, and are lowly without any greatness, there is only superficial quality of being an AchArya who instructs and the completeness in it is not there.
