avathArikai (Introduction)

piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully explaining the result of completeness and poverty for both [AchArya and Sishya].

sUthram 342

avanukkup pUrthiyAlE svarUpam jIviththadhu; ivanukku midiyAlE svarUpam jIviththadhu.

Simple Explanation

AchArya’s true nature remained due to his completeness; Sishya’s true nature remained due to his poverty.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

avanukku …

That is – for the AchArya, due to the completeness which makes him reject everything which is stained with the Sishya’s ownership claim, his true nature of being an AchArya remained. For the Sishya, due to the poverty which occurs by constant meditation upon everything to be one’s AchAryas which does not allow him to submit anything due to such poverty, his true nature of being a Sishya remained.
