avathArikai (Introduction)

piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains the defect one acquires when good qualities of bhagavAn and bhAgavathas are not thought about.

sUthram 356

nadandhadhillaiyAgil dhOsha gyAnamE dhOshamAm.

Simple Explanation

If good qualities of bhagavAn and bhAgavathas are not thought about, thinking about others’ defects, is in itself a defect.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

nadandhadhillaiyAgil …

That is – when one does not think about good qualities, one will think about defects; such knowledge about others’ defects is the defect in the form of the cause for bhagavAn’s anger; one need not acquire another defect based on this. With this – it is explained that this must be compulsorily given up.
