When asked “Otherwise [if not accepted as said in previous sUthram], if the chEthana also need to do anything more, what is the harm?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains in this sUthram.

allAdhapOdhu bandhaththukkum pUrthikkum koththaiyAm.

Simple Explanation

Otherwise, there will be defect in the relationship [of bhagavAn with the chEthana] and completeness [of bhagavAn].

Instead of accepting that the chEthana just needs to know about self and stop prohibiting bhagavAn from helping, if it is said that the chEthana needs to something more to attain the goal.

bandhaththukkum pUrthikkum koththai

Such thought will lead to harming,

  • his nirupAdhika SEshathvam (natural lordship) where chEthana’s protection is considered for bhagavAn’s purpose.
  • his nirapEksha upAyathvam (natural means) due to which, he does not expect any efforts from the chEthana to attain him.
