avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “In such a case, should there be no purpose for being different from achith (matter) [in accepting bhagavAn as upAyam]?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully responds.
sUthram 65
achith vyAvruththikku prayOjanam upAyaththil upakAra smruthiyum, upEyaththil ugappum.
Simple Explanation
The purpose of being different from achith (matter) [in accepting bhagavAn as upAyam] is to have gratitude towards bhagavAn, who is the upAyam (means) and to carry out kainkayam to bhagavAn which is the upEyam (goal).
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
achith vyAvruththikku …
upAyaththil upakAra smruthi
Meditating upon the favours done by emperumAn who is the sidhdhOpAyam (ready means) as said in thiruvAimozhi 2.7.8 “ennaith thImanam keduththAy” (you reformed my evil mind) and in thiruvAimozhi 2.7.7 “maruvith thozhum manamE thandhAy” (bestowed me the mind that made me fit well (without any other expectation) at your enjoyable lotus feet).
upEyaththil ugappu
The joy in the kainkaryams which are performed towards bhagavAn’s divine feet as said in thiruvAimozhi 10.8.10 “uRREn ugandhu paNi seydhu” (Without any reason [effort from my side], I reached your divine feet; I attained the divine feet of yours, who are the ultimate goal, by serving through speech, out of love), and the joy which is derived by seeing the joy in him on accepting such kainkaryams.
