avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “In such case, if there is no engagement in self-effort and self-enjoyment, what is the purpose of chEthana’s effort and consciousness?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.
sUthram 72
paraprayOjana pravruththi prayathna palam; thadhvishaya prIthi chaithanya palam.
Simple Explanation
The purpose of chEthana’s effort is to act for the benefit of bhagavAn; the purpose of chEthana’s consciousness is to bring joy to bhagavAn.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
parapraOjana …
That is – as said in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 31.25 “aham sarvam karishyAmi” (I will do everything), thiruvAimozhi 3.3.1 “vazhuvilA adimai seyya vENdum” (would like to perform continuous kainkaryam), thiruppAvai 29 “unakkE nAm AtcheyvOm” (we will serve for your pleasure only), the acts in the form of kainkaryam (service) which is done for the sake of bhagavAn, are the result of the chEthana’s effort in the form of actions.
As said in sthOthra rathnam 46 “nithya kinkara: praharshayishyAmi” (having eternal kainkaryam, when will I please you only?), the joy of bhagavAn who is greatly pleased due to the chEthana’s kainkaryam which is aimed at giving pleasure to bhagavAn, is the result of the consciousness in the chEthana which differentiates the chEthana from achith (matter).
kulaSEkarAzhwAr too said in perumAL thirumozhi 4.9 “padiyAyk kidandhu un pavaLa vAy kANbEnE” (Let me be the foot-step at your sannidhi entrance and joyfully see your pearl-like lips).
With this – for the chEthana who is having svayathna nivruththi and svaprayOjana nivruththi which are results of pArathanthryam and SEshathvam respectively, the purpose matching the chEthana’s pArathanthryam and SEshathvam are explained.
