avathArikai (Introduction)

Previously, piLLai lOkAchAryar said emperumAn would show all the love he has towards all dhivyadhESams, towards his devotee only; now, to mercifully explain that after attaining his devotee, his attachment towards ugandharuLina nilangaL (dhivyadhESams and other divine abodes where he is joyfully residing) will shrink, he identifies the difference between those two (divine abodes and devotee).

sUthram 171

anguththai vAsam sAdhanam; inguththai vAsam sAdhyam.

Simple Explanation

Residing there (divine abodes) is the means; residing here (devotee) is the goal.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

anguththai …

Since he is joyfully residing in the divine abodes to capture the chEthanas by apt means, piLLai lOkAchAryar is saying “anguththai vAsam sAdhanam“.

Since the chEthana getting reformed and emperumAn getting to reside in the heart of the chEthana are results of his efforts from those divine abodes, piLLai lOkAchAryar is saying “inguththai vAsam sAdhyam“.

These being means and goal are seen in nAnmugan thiruvandhAdhi 36nAgaththaNaik kudandhai“, thiruvAimozhi 10.4.4malai mEl thAn ninRu“, periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5.4.9 “panikkadalil paLLi kOLaip pazhagavittu“.
