avathArikai (Introduction)

Subsequently, piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains how emperumAn likes the body of the devotee who is dear to him.

sUthram 170

thirumAlirunjOlai malaiyE” engiRapadiyE ugandharuLina nilangaL ellAvaRRilum paNNum viruppaththai ivanudaiya SarIraikadhESaththilE paNNum.

Simple Explanation

As said in thiruvAimozhi 10.7.8thirumAlirunjOlai malaiyE” (He likes my head as much as thirumAlirunjOlai hill), emperumAn shows all the love he has for all dhivyadhESams, on a small limb of his devotee’s body.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

thirumAlirunjOlai malai …

That is – AzhwAr said “emperumAn equally desired theRkuth thirumalai (the divine hill in the southern direction – thirumAlirunjOlai), thiruppARkadal (milk ocean) and my head. He equally desired SrIvaikuNtam, vadakkuth thirumalai (the divine hill in the northern direction – thiruvEngadam) and my body”. In this manner, when AzhwAr says that emperumAn likes each limb of AzhwAr’s body as good as two dhivyadhESams, it implies his desire for each limb of AzhwAr at par with all dhivyadhESams collectively. Thus, piLLai lOkAchAryar is saying “as said in that pAsuram,  emperumAn will show great love towards gyAni’s each limb at par with all the dhivyadhESams which are dear to him”.
