avathArikai (Introduction)

piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully explaining the doubt “In this manner, if we say bhagavAn expects purushakAram (recommendation of pirAtti), will that not affect the nairapEkshyam (not expecting any support) of upAyam (bhagavAn)?”

sUthram 268

upAyam svIkAra kAlaththil purusha sApEkshamumAy purushakAra sApEkshamumAy irukkum; kArya kAlaththil ubhaya nirapEkshamAy irukkum.

Simple Explanation

bhagavAn who is the means, will expect purusha (the person who surrenders) and purushakAram; while granting the results, he will not expect either of these persons.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

upAyam…

That is – sidhdhOpAyam (bhagavAn who is the readily available means) who does not expect any support, while being pursued through SaraNAgathi, expects the person who surrenders and purushakAram who makes such surrender happen; bhagavAn who was surrendered to by the AthmA, while eliminating the unfavourable aspects and granting the favourable aspects, will not seek the support of either the person who surrenders or pirAtti, and will take care of it himself. Only if bhagavAn expects the support of anyone during execution of the task, will the nairapEkshyam of bhagavAn be affected.
