avathArikai (Introduction)

Thus, piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explained the acts which are to be performed and avoided by the Sishya for the pleasure of AchArya previously; subsequently, he is mercifully explaining another aspect which is expected in him.

ivanukku SarIrAvasAnaththaLavum AchArya vishayaththil “ennaith thImanam keduththAy” “maruvith thozhum manamE thandhAy” enRu upakAra smruthi nadakka vENum.

Simple Explanation

Such Sishya, until the end of his body, should have gratitude towards the AchArya as said in thiruvAimozhi 2.7.8 “ennaith thImanam keduththAy” (You transformed my evil mind) and in thiruvAimozhi 2.7.7 “maruvith thozhum manamE thandhAy” (You gave this mind which will worship you firmly).

That is – for such Sishya, as long as he is alive with a body, towards the AchArya who has done great favour, he should be grateful thinking “You have eliminated my evil mind; you have given a mind with which I can engage in favourable acts without any expectation”.
