avathArikai (Introduction)
Subsequently, piLLai lOkAchAryar elaborates this principle (charama parvam).
sUthram 415
vishaya pravaNanukku aththai vittu bhagavath vishayaththilE varugaikkuLLa arumai pOlanRu, prathama parvaththai vittuch charama parvaththilE varugaikkuLLa arumai.
Simple Explanation
Giving up prathama parvam (devotion towards bhagavAn) and engaging in charama parvam (devotion towards AchArya) is more difficult than a person, who is attached to sensual pleasures, giving that up and engaging in bhagavath vishayam (devotion towards bhagavAn).
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
vishaya pravaNanukku …
That is – for a person who became attracted towards the superficially distinguished nature of inferior matters and became totally immersed in them to be unable to pull out from the same, it is difficult to give those up and engage in bhagavAn’s matters which are apt; but it is more difficult for a person to give up prathama parvam which is said as in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 3.79 “pumsAm dhrushti chiththApahAri” (one who steals the hearts of those who see him) in which he is fully engaged, to become engaged in service to his AchArya, charama parvam.
