kamsa sent many demons thinking that he can kill krishNa and escape. But all those demons were destroyed by krishNa, and kamsa was left with fear and dejection only.
nAradha who is a great devotee of vishNu went to kamsa’s assembly. He told kamsa “krishNa and balarAma, who are going to kill you, are happily living in vrindhAvanam. Your end is near”. Hearing that, kamsa became very angry. Already he was scared hearing the words of the aSarIri. Now hearing the firm message from nAradha, he became more angry and fearful.
He thought about the ways to kill krishNa and made a plan to arrange a bow festival, invite krishNa and kill him somehow. He thought he can kill krishNa with the help of the elephant named kuvalayApeedam, the wrestlers such as chANUra, mushtika et al. He thought that even if krishNa escapes them, he can kill krishNa, by himself. He thought that he will make it accidental. He ordered akrUra, who was one of his staff, to go and bring krishNa and balarAma. He remained sleepless throughout the night, thinking about krishNa.
This incident is explained by periyAzhwAr in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi saying “thIya pundhik kanjan un mEl sinamudaiyan” (kamsa with evil intellect is angry on you (krishNa)). ANdAL explains this incident elaborately in her thiruppAvai saying “tharikkilAnAgith thAn thIngu ninaindha karuththaip pizhaippiththuk kanjan vayiRRil neruppenna ninRa nedumAlE” (kamsa being unable to even tolerate krishNa living in hiding, had evil intent towards him; krishNa, the supreme lord, remained as fire in the stomach of such kams)
akrUra was totally devoted towards krishna. He became joyful thinking “Instead of waking up to see kamsa, tomorrow I am going to have the fortune of seeing krishNa”. He started going towards krishNa’s place very desirously to see him.
Essence in this incident:
- kamsa was always thinking about bhagavAn. But since he was inimical towards krishNa, he was always thinking about krishNa with evil intent. Such thoughts towards bhagavAn are not apt.
- No matter how cunning one may be trying, to trick bhagavAn, bhagavAn has more smartness and ability to trick such persons. kamsa thought of killing krishNa without anyone knowing about it. But krishNa killed such kamsa to let that thought die with him.
