avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “Let that language be anAdhi (beginningless); is there any statement which says that thiruvAimozhi is a type of vEdham?” the answer is given,

chUrNikai 42

vadamozhi maRai enRadhu thenmozhi maRaiyai ninaiththiRE

Simple Explanation

AzhwAr said in his pAsuram thiruvAimozhi 8.9.8vadamozhi maRai” (vEdham in samskrutha language), firmly thinking that there is vEdham in southern language also.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

That is – while AzhwAr could have just said “maRai” indicating vEdham, AzhwAr said “vadamozhi maRai” indicating samskrutha vEdham, thinking about the presence of dhrAvida vEdham. This implies that when the other side is not there, one need not specify the adjective.
