avathArikai (Introduction)
When asked “But are the glories of vEdham, such as its being SAsthram, being bhagavAn’s orders, not having faults, being Sruthi (heard), being truthful and having no beginning, present for nammAzhwAr’s prabandhams?” nAyanAr explains.

Simple Explanation
Several passages [which will be explained in the commentary] identify the same qualities for vEdham and nammAzhwAr’s prabandhams.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
That is –
- just as that [vEdham] is as said in thirumAlai 3 “vEdha nUl” – SAsthram is named as vEdham, this [thiruvAimozhi] is also as said in periya thirumozhi 1.7.10 “irundhamizh nUl” – the great thamizh SAsthram.
- just as that is as said in SrI pAncharAthram “Sruthi: smruthi: mamaivAgyA” (Sruthi and smruthi are my orders) – these are said to be in the form of bhagavAn’s orders, this is as said in thiruvAimozhi 6.3.11 “ANai Ayiram“, this is also said to be in the form of his orders.
- just as that is as said in periya thirumozhi 5.3.2 “vasaiyil nAnmaRai” – the four vEdhams are free from faults like vipralamba (deception) etc, this is also as said in thiruvAimozhi 1.6.11 “Edhamil Ayiram” – thiruvAimozhi is not having any faults.
- just as that is as said in thiruvAimozhi 1.1.7 “sudar migu surudhi” (radiant Sruthi) and as said in “SrUyathE ithi Sruthi:” (since it is heard, it is known as Sruthi), the vEdhams are heard using the ears, in the manner of recital by previous teachers, this is also said to be sweet to hear as said thiruvAimozhi 10.6.11 “sevikkiniya senjollE” (beautiful words which are sweet to the ears).
- just as that is as said in thiruchchandha viruththam 72 “vEdhanUl OdhuginRadhu uNmai” (Whatever is said in vEdham, that is truth) – there is nothing false in what is said in vEdham, this is also as said in thiruvAimozhi 4.3.11 “poyyil pAdal” – this cannot tolerate even the smell of non-truth.
- just as that is said to be without beginning and end, as said in periya thirumozhi 5.7.1 “paNdai nAnmaRai” (Ancient, four vEdhams) and thiruvAimozhi 6.5.4 “niRkum nAnmaRai” (four vEdhams which will remain forever), this is also said to be without beginning and end, as said in thiruvAimozhi 6.5.11 “mundhai Ayiram” (the ancient thousand pAsurams) and thiruvAimozhi 9.7.11 “azhivillA Ayiram” (thousand pAsurams which never leave the heart of the enjoyers).
