Simple Explanation
Just as rig vEdham will expand as sAma vEdham with music filled words, thiruviruththam expanded into thiruvAimozhi, when added with music.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
That is – rig vEdham is the shortened form of sAma vEdham, with the sAmam which are in music form which adds rasa (flavour) to the rig as said in “ruchas sAma rasa:” (sAma adds flavour to rig) and expands into sAma vEdham with sthOpam (music filled words) such as “hAvu hAvu hAvu“; similarly, thiruviruththam, which has hundred pAsurams as said in thiruviruththam 100 “sollAr thodaiyal” (garland complete with divine words) and which represents rig vEdham, when added with music as said in thiruvAimozhi 2.4.11 “isai kUtti” (adding music), becomes thiruvAimozhi which represents sAma vEdham, has a flavour and has thousand enjoyable pAsurams as said in thiruvAimozhi 1.3.11 “amar suvai Ayiram” (thousand pAsurams with fitting flavour).
