5. kArimARan

As mentioned in divine name number 4, mAran means one who is different from worldly people. kAri nammAzhwAr’s father’s name. kArimARan means kAri’s son who is nammAzhwAr. 

The greatness of nammAzhwAr’s clan (family hierarchy) is that everyone was totally surrendered to bhagavAn and did not have any attachment towards other dhEvathAs. So there is a very important quality found in the lineage of nammAzhwAr.

nammAzhwAr’s lineage is – thiruvaLuthi vaLa nAdar and his son was aRandhAngiyAr. aRandhAngiyAr’s son was chakrapANiyAr. chakrapANiyAr’s son was achyuthar. achyuthar’s son was sendhAmaraik kaNNar. sendhAmaraik kaNNar’s son was poRkAriyAr. poRkAriyAr’s son was kAriyAr and kAriyAr’s son was mARan (nammAzhwAr).

Hence he is known as kArimARan.

6. thirunAvIRudaiya pirAn

thirunAvIRudaiya pirAn is a thamizh name. 

pirAn means benefactor. thirunAvIRudaiya pirAn means the one who has power in his divine tongue. 

AzhwAr himself says in thiruvAimozhi 6.4.9 – ‘kalakka Ezh kadal Ezh malai ulagEzhum kazhiyak kadAy’. In this pAsuram AzhwAr says ‘mAl vaNNanai malakku nAvudaiyERku’; “I have the tongue which can bewilder bhagavAn himself such is my tongue’s power”. 

In the thiruvAimozhi pAsuram 3.9.11 – “ERkum perum pugazh vAnavar Isan kaNNan thanakku | ERkum perum pugazh vaN kurugUrch chatakOpan sol | ERkum perum pugazh AyiraththuL ivaiyum Or paththu | ERkum perum pugazh solla vallArkkillai sanmamE“, it is said that “krishNa has so many auspicious wonderful qualities and to sing such bhagavAn who is qualified?” In the next line of the same pAsuram, it is highlighted by AzhwAr “ERkum perum pugazh vaN kurugUrch chatakOpan” – “this SatakOpa that is me I am having the qualities to sing about such bhagavAn”.

AzhwAr himself declares that his speech is extraordinary and very powerful.
