7. parAnkuSa
ankuSa means the hook which controls an elephant. A mahout uses the hook to control big elephants. nammAzhwAr is the one who controlled people of other philosophies.
Some philosophies were against vEdham and some philosophies misinterpreted vEdham. Those personalities who were propagating such philosophies were controlled and were vanquished by nammAzhwAr. Hence, he is known as parAnkuSa.
Another explanation for parAnkuSa is, para means bhagavAn, Sriman nArAyaNa himself. parAnkuSa means one who controlled bhagavAn with his affectionate and loving pAsurams, dhivya prabandham. nammAzhwAr mesmerised bhagavAn and kept bhagavAn under his control. That is why he is known as parAnkuSa.
So, there two explanations for the name parAnkuSa. One is nammAzhwAr who controlled other philosophers. Second, nammAzhwAr who controlled bhagavAn himself.
8. udhayabhAskara
bhAskara means sun. Usually, the sun eliminates darkness.
nammAzhwAr eliminates the darkness, which is nothing but ignorance in the mind of people. udhayabhAskara means rising sun, the sun which is seen around dawn time.
The specialty of the rising sun is that it is not very hot. So, nammAzhwAr eliminates our ignorance and at the same time, he does it pleasantly and softly. Hence he is known as udayabhAskara.
Unlike the sun that only eliminates external darkness, nammAzhwAr eliminates the internal darkness, the ignorance, which is very difficult to eliminate. Hence he is known as udhayabhAskara.
