avathArikai (Introduction)
piLLai lOkAchAryar is mercifully answering the question “How is that?”
sUthram 416
angu dhOsha dharSanaththAlE mILalAm; ingu adhu seyya oNNAdhu.
Simple Explanation
There (in moving from sensual pleasures to bhagavAn), one can see the defects of worldly pleasures; here that is not possible.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
angu …
That is – since lowly pleasures have the defect of being associated with body and are also having the defects such as being insignificant and impermanent, one can meditate upon such aspects to become disgusted and refrain; here, having distinguished body, having all auspicious qualities, eternal, incomprehensible and immeasurable, there is no scope for seeing the defects and return; It is said in “sankyAthum naiva SakyanthE guNA dhOshAScha SArngina: | AnandhyAdhyAth prathamO rASIr abhAvathEva paSchima: ||” (Bow holding ISvara’s qualities and defects are countless [innumerable qualities and no defects].; first the qualities which are in abundance cannot be counted and next, defects which are not present, cannot be counted).
