<< Burning down khANdava vana, Building indhraprastha
Let us see how krishNa marries five more women. All these eight women in total, are his eight primary consorts in krishNAvathAram.
Once when krishNa and arjuna went to the forest for hunting, they were bathing in the yamunA. At that time they saw a beautiful woman there. krishNa sent arjuna to her and asked him to enquire about her. arjuna went to her and asked “Who are you?” She said “I am kALindhi, sUrya’s daughter. I desire to marry to bhagavAn vishNu only. I am carrying out a penance for that”. arjuna shared that message to krishNa. krishNa took her along with them on his chariot to yudhishtira’s place.
Subsequently, krishNa and others took leave from pANdavas and reached dhvArakA. There krishNa married kALindhi.
Further, krishNa desired to marry mithravindhA, the daughter of his another aunt rAjAdhidhEvi. Her brothers vindhya and anuvindhya were ruling avanthi. They arranged a svayamvaram (where the girl chooses her husband) for their sister. But they stopped krishNa from attending that event. However, krishNa went there and as the kings who came for the event were watching, he took her away and married her.
Subsequently, the king of kOsala kingdom, nagnajith, was seeking a good groom for his daughter sathyA alias nagnajIthi. He had seven cruel bulls. He made an announcement that only the one who subdues the seven bulls will get to marry his daughter. Many princes came to defeat the bulls but ended up getting injured by the bulls and ran away. Hearing about this, krishNa came with a huge army to kOsala kingdom. nagnajith welcomed krishNa affectionately and submitted many gifts to him. sathyA too desired to marry krishNa on seeing him. krishNa subdued those seven bulls and married her. Some princes were trying to stop the marriage but were driven out by krishNa. It is important to note that this incident is similar to that of nappinnai’s incident.
Further, krishNa’s another aunt SruthakIrthi who was the queen of kEkaya kingdom had a daughter named bhadhrA. krishNa married her with the permission of her brothers.
Then, he went to the svayamvaram of lakshmaNA, the princess of madhra kingdom, took her away and married her.
In this manner, he remained blissfully in dhvArakA as the dhvArakAdhISa with his eight primary consorts rukmiNi, sathyabAmA, jAmbavathi, kALindhi, mithravindhA, sathyA, bhadhrA and lakshmaNA.
krishNa then killed narakAsura and married sixteen thousand one hundred celestial women who were held captive by him. We will see this in the next article.
Essence in this incident:
- bhagavAn SrIman nArAyaNa’s primary consorts SrIdhEvi, bhUmidhEvi and nILAdhEvi incarnated as rukmiNi, sathyabAmA and nappinnai or sathyA and married krishNa.
- bhagavAn is best among men. All the AthmAs remain in the position of his wife. In certain incarnations, he selects certain AthmAs, grants them feminine body and marries them. This way he grants the great position of being his divine consorts, to them.
