Let us enjoy what happened subsequently in the royal assembly of kauravas.
When krishNa came as the messenger, dhritharAshtra thought he could give a lot of wealth to krishNa and make him take kauravas’ side. But he subsequently realised that it was wrong to think in that manner.
As dhuryOdhana knew krishNa’s arrival, he made a fake seat and built a room under the seat. He thought that he could make krishNa sit there, push him down and imprison him. He had placed a few wrestlers in the underground room. As krishNa sat on the seat, he started going down, but he manifested his viSvarUpam (universal form) from there and frightened everyone.
After that, krishNa started his peace talks with dhritharAshtra. He told yudhishtira is the truly qualified person to rule the kingdom and dhritharAshtra who was the temporary ruler should give up his post. But dhuryOdhana intercepted and told that he cannot give the kingdom to pANdavas and pANdavas have no right to claim the kingdom. krishNa told even if they gave five villages to pANdavas, pANdavas will remain content. But dhuryOdhana refused to even give that and further said that not even a small piece of land can be given to them. Hearing these words, krishNa said “Then, war is the only solution”. dhuryOdhana agreed and said “Yes. We are ready for the war”.
vidhura started giving good advise to dhuryOdhana saying “You should neither talk to krishNa like this nor refuse the legitimate right of pANdavas”. dhuryOdhana became angry and insulted vidhura. vidhura became very upset and said “I will not remain with those who are unrighteous. Also, I will not participate in this war” and broke his vishNu dhanus (vishNu’s bow which he had). Had vidhura supported dhuryOdhana, that would have posed great danger to pANdavas.
In this manner, krishNa went as a messenger and ensured the occurrence of war.
AzhwArs enjoy krishNa going as a messenger in a number of places. poygai AzhwAr in his mudhal thiruvandhAdhi says “seRRezhundhu thIvizhiththuch chenRa indha Ezhulagum“. nampiLLai explains this incident in context of krishNa manifesting viSvarUpam in dhuryOdhana’s assembly, as one explanation. periyAzhwAr in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi says “thUdhu senRAy! kuru pANdavarkkAy angOr poysuRRam pEsich chenRu bEdham seydhu engum piNam paduththAy! thirumAlirunjOlai endhAy” – saying “Oh my lord who resides in thirumAlirunjOlai! You went as the messenger as if you are equally positioned towards kauravas and pANdavas, caused the war between them and destroyed dhuryOdhana et al”. thirumangai AzhwAr in his periya thirumozhi says “arava nIL kodiyOn avaiyuL Asanaththai anjidAdhEyida adhaRkup periya mAmEni aNdam Uduruvap perundhisai adangida nimirndhOn” – saying “bhagavAn went to dhuryOdhana’s assembly where he was offered a seat and he manifested universal form there”.
Essence in this incident:
- bhagavAn easily wins over those who try to suppress him or destroy him, in the manner they don’t expect.
- When bhagavAn takes a vow, he will somehow accomplish it. No one can block or violate his intention.
