For the question “Where was that [ISvaran desiring to be an AchAryan] seen?” piLLai lOkAchAryar responds,

sUthram 431

AgaiyiRE guruparamparaiyilE anvayiththadhum SrI gIthaiyum abhaya pradhAnamum aruLich cheydhadhum.

Simple Explanation

That is why he remained in the guruparamparA and mercifully bestowed SrI bhagavath gIthA and abhaya pradhAnam (SlOkam of protection to SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn).

That is – since he desired to be an AchAryan, he is present in the guruparamparA by instructing dhvaya mahA manthram as said in “sadhAchArya vamSO gyEya: | AchAryANAm asAvAsA vidhyAbhagavaththa: ||” (One should learn about the clan of one’s AchArya. In the AchArya paramparai, one should learn about each one of the AchAryas up to bhagavAn); he assumed the duty of AchAryan towards arjuna and mercifully spoke SrI gIthA which reveals starting from thathva vivEkam (ability to discriminate the three truths – chith, achith and ISvaran) up to prapaththi; for the sake of SrI vibhIshaNAzhwAn, he mercifully gave protection as said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 18.33 “sakrudhEva prapannAya thavAsmIthi  cha yAchathE I abhayam sarvabhUthEbhyO dhadhAmyEthath vratham mama  II“ (I offer protection from all other creations to one who surrenders to me and one who prays to me after saying that he is my servitor. This is my oath). With this, the greatness of being an AchAryan which is even desired by ISvaran, is explained.
