<< 5 – Killing of thruNAvarthAsura
krishNa and balarAma started crawling nicely. They went everywhere crawling, played in the dirt, returned to their mothers yaSOdhA and rOhiNi, climbed on their lap and drank their milk beautifully.
In general, in the cowherd clan, good conduct such as taking bath etc would be a little bit less. As bhagavAn had incarnated as the chief of cowherd clan, he had completely given up such good conduct. Mother yaSOdhA would struggle so much to just make him bathe. In periyAzhwAr thirumozhi, periyAzhwAr has sung a whole decad in the mood of mother yaSOdhA for krishNa’s bathing activity starting with “veNNey aLaiNdha kuNungum”.
In this manner, after some time, krishNa started standing up and walking too. From that time onwards, his mischievous activities started. He will always engage in mischievous activities such as pulling the hair of girls, pulling their garments, stealing butter, breaking pots, teasing the cows and calves etc.
Once, while all the children were playing on a dirt road, krishNa took some mud and ate it. The children who were present there went to mother yaSOdhA and complained to her. As soon as she heard that, she angrily went towards krishNa and asked “Why did you eat the mud?” krishNa responded “I did not do it at all”. She asked “Come on! Open your mouth, let me see for myself”. He thought of bewildering his mother a little bit. He opened his mouth and showed the entire world, himself and her, inside his mouth. She became bewildered and invited other gOpikAs to see the same. They also saw that wonderful vision and became bewildered. But within a fraction of a moment, he concealed that vision and made them all forget such vision. periyAzhwAr, in his periyAzhwAr thirumozhi, enjoyed and mercifully explained this incident in “vAyuL vaiyagam kaNda mada nallAr Ayar puththiran allan arundheyvam pAya sIrudaip paNbudaip pAlagan mAyan enRu magizhndhanar mAdharE” (The noble and humble ladies of gOkulam saw the world in krishNa’s mouth; they thought “krishNa is not just a cowherd boy but the supreme lord who is the amazing one with very famous and auspicious qualities” and became happy discussing about it).
Essence in this incident:
- emperumAn showed both his simplicity and supremacy in krishNAvathAram.
- emperumAn manifests his amazing activities to his devotees and he becomes very blissful.
