avathArikai (Introduction)

Further, nAyanAr shows an example to explain that while AzhwAr’s prabandhams are vEdha kAryam (an incarnation of vEdham), there is no shortcoming in saying that while only selected few can study vEdham, AzhwAr’s prabandhams can be studied by all.

Simple Explanation

Golden pot is unlike earthen pot.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

That is – earthen pot can only be touched by those who can touch it and not by anyone else; but golden pot, which is also a product of earth, can be touched by everyone. Similarly, though vEdham, [which is the cause for AzhwAr’s prabandhams, is adhikruthAdhikAram (only brAhmaNas, kshathriyas and vaiSyas can learn/recite), AzhwAr’s prabandhams which are an effect of such vEdham, by the special samskAram (process, of being composed by AzhwAr), has no shortcoming in being sarvAdhikAram (can be learnt/recited by everyone). The effect (gold) being greater than the cause (earth) which is in the example, is applicable in the principle which is explained through that example (i.e., dhivyaprabandham being greater than vEdham).
