avathArikai (Introduction)
Subsequently, piLLai lOkAchAryar reminds us the words of sIthAp pirAtti as a proof for this principle.
sUthram 112
anasUyaikkup pirAtti aruLichcheydha vArththaiyai smarippadhu.
Simple Explanation
Remember the words which were mercifully spoken by pirAtti to anasUyA.
vyAkyAnam (Commentary)
anasUyaikku …
After perumAL (SrI rAma) mercifully arrived at the hermitage of athri bhagavAn (sage athri) and received blessings of the maharishi, sIthAp pirAtti went and got the blessings of his wife anasUyA. At that time, anasUyA told sIthAp pirAtti “Following perumAL to the forest giving up relatives, pride and wealth occurred to you by divine arrangement; whether the husband is city-dweller or forest-dweller, whether he is good or bad, for the wife, her husband is god. You should remain favourable to perumAL in this manner, forever”.
Hearing that, pirAtti, feeling shy [due to hearing the praises], put her head down and said “Though I have natural, deep attachment towards perumAL, since he is having abundant, noble qualities, people of this world will think that my feelings for him are due to his noble qualities. Since I cannot separate perumAL from his qualities, I cannot announce my dependence on him [irrespective of his qualities]. Even if he lacks good qualities and even if he becomes ugly, I will remain the same way towards him”.
