avathArikai (Introduction)

When asked “Can one just remain fully faithful that he is the upAyam (means) and remain withdrawn from self-effort? Should the chEthana not do anything to please bhagavAn?” piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains.

sUthram 136

pUrNa vishayam AgaiyAlE perumaikkIdAgap pachchaiyida oNNAdhu.

Simple Explanation

Since bhagavAn is naturally complete, one cannot do anything to please him matching his greatness.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

pUrNa vishayam …

That is – in this world. when one tries to please another person, one will offer things matching the other person’s greatness; here too, one must offer something matching bhagavAn. Since he is the one who is complete due to avApthasamasthakAmathvam (having no unfulfilled desires), one cannot do anything to please such emperumAn, matching his greatness.
