avathArikai (Introduction)

piLLai lOkAchAryar mercifully explains with an example that emperumAn is not only having attachment towards AzhwAr’s divine body just as loving the beloved one’s dirt, but also attached to AzhwAr’s divine body due to the fragrance of knowledge manifested in it.

sUthram 168

vErch chUdumavargaL maN paRRuk kazhaRRAdhAp pOlE gyAniyai vigrahaththOdE Adharikkum.

Simple Explanation

Just as those who wear certain roots [on their head as decoration] will not eliminate the soil from the root, emperumAn desires for gyAni (great devotee) with body.

vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

vEr …

That is – those who seek enjoyment in wearing root knowing its fragrance, will wear the root with the soil, thinking “if the soil is eliminated, the fragrance will reduce in the root”; similarly, sarvESvaran who is the supreme enjoyer, while eagerly enjoying gyAni, desires for such gyAni along with his body which is manifesting the fragrance of knowledge and is the abode for such joyful reactions which result from such knowledge as said in “AhlAdha SItha nEthrAmbhu: puLakIkrutha gAthravAn | sadhA paraguNAvishta: dhrashtavya: sarva dhEhibhi: ||” (Due to always enjoying paramAthmA’s qualities, having cool tears due to enjoying emperumAn, having body with goosebumps, those devotees are to be seen by everyone),
