badhdhar engiRadhu – samsArigaLai.
Meaning
The badhdhas are the samsAris (bound souls).
Explanation
The badhdhas (samsAris) are those:
- whose true nature (sva-svarUpa) is concealed by bhagavAn’s beginningless mAyA, constituted of the three guNas, just as oil is hidden in sesame seeds, fire in wood, and fragrance in flowers (thila-thailavath, dhAru-vahnivath, durvivEcha-guNa-thrayAthmaka anAdhi-bhagavan-mAyA-thirOhitha-sva-svarUparAy);
- who are enveloped by beginningless ignorance (anAdhi-avidhyA) and bound by the endless accumulation of puNya and pApa in the form of karma (anAdhi-avidhyA-samchitha-anantha-puNya-pApa-rUpa-karma-vEshtitharAy);
- who enter various and diverse bodies such as those of dhEva (celestial), manushya (human), thiryak (animals, birds etc) and sthAvar (plants, trees etc), according to their respective karmas (thath-thath-karma-anuguNa vividha vichithra dEvAdhi-rUpa-dhEha-viSEsha-pravishtarAy);
- who develop aham-budhdhi (the notion “I”) towards those bodies and mamathA-budhdhi (the notion “mine”) towards everything connected with those bodies;
- who, being overpowered by evil vAsanAs and attachments (dhurvAsanA-ruchi-vivaSarAy), experience an uninterrupted succession of pleasures and pains according to their respective karmas (sva-sva-karma-anuguNa-sukha-dhu:kha-paramparagaLai anubhavikkumavargaL).
