ஆத்மபே4த3ம் சொல்லுகிற ஶ்ருதியோடும் விரோதிக்கும்.
Athma bhEdham sollugiRa SruthiyOdum virOdhikkum.
Meaning
It also contradicts the Sruthi passages that teach the distinction among individual souls.
Explanation
Contradiction with scripture
Having shown through reasoning that the doctrine of EkAthmavAdha leads to many contradictions, piLLai lOkAchArya now points out that it also contradicts Sruthi.
The doctrine that there is only one AthmA is opposed to the scriptural passages that establish the plurality of individual souls.
Sruthi pramANa
The Sruthi [katavallee upanishadh] declares
नित्यो नित्यानां चेतनश्चेतनानामेको बहूनां यो विदधाति कामान्।
nithyO nithyAnAm chEthanaS chEthanAnAm Eko bahUnAm yO vidhadhAthi kAmAn।
“The one eternal among the many eternal beings, the one conscious being among the many conscious beings, who fulfills the desires of the many.”
This passage clearly teaches the distinction between the supreme lord and the many individual souls.
Therefore, the doctrine that there is only one AthmA is incompatible with the authority of the Sruthi.
