ஆத்மஸ்வரூபம்தான் ப3த்3த முக்த நித்யரூபேண மூன்று படிபட்டிருக்கும்.
Athma svarUpam thAn badhdha muktha nithya rUpENa mUnRu padippattirukkum.
Meaning
The essential nature of the soul exists in three forms: badhdha (bound), muktha (liberated), and nithya (eternally free).
Explanation
Having thus explained the nature of the soul, piLLai lOkAchAryar now explains that the same Athma svarUpa exists in three categories because of:
- anAdhi achith sambandha (beginningless association with matter),
- thadh viyOga (separation from that association), and
- thadh ananvaya (complete absence of that association).
Accordingly, the soul is spoken of as:
- badhdha (bound),
- muktha (liberated), and
- nithya (eternally free).
The commentator then raises the next question:
“Who are the badhdhas?”
This is explained in the following sUthram.
