கு3ணஸம்ஸர்க்க3க்ருதம்.
guNa samsarga krutham.
Meaning
Such agency arises due to association with the guNas.
Explanation
A doubt may arise:
If the agency involved in worldly activities is not intrinsic to the soul, then how does it arise?
The author answers:
“guNa samsarga krutham” — it is produced by association with the guNas.
The guṇas referred to here are:
- सत्त्व (sathva)
- रजस् (rajas)
- तमस् (thamas)
Through association with these guNas, worldly agency arises.
This is taught in the SrI bhagavath gIthA3.27 –
प्रकृतेः क्रियमाणानि गुणैः कर्माणि सर्वशः ।
अहङ्कारविमूढात्मा कर्ताहमिति मन्यते ॥
(prakruthE: kriyamANAni guNai: karmANi sarvaSa: |
ahankAra vimUdAthmA karthAham ithi manyathE ||)
“All actions are performed by the guNas of prakruthi. The self, deluded by ego, thinks, ‘I am the doer.'”
Thus, the agency connected with worldly activities arises from the soul’s association with the guṇas.
The commentator notes that this subject has already been discussed in detail by the bhAshyakArar under the sUthram –
कर्ता शास्त्रार्थवत्त्वात्
(kartA SAsthrArthavaththvAth)
There, the pUrvapaksham and sidhdhAntham are examined extensively.
Therefore, after refuting the sAnkhya view and establishing agency in the soul, the author now clarifies that the agency seen in worldly conduct is not intrinsic to the soul’s essential nature but arises due to association with the guNas.
